As my thesis project during my final year at UCLA pursuing my MFA in Film and Television, focussing in animation, Surviving Staten Island is an animated pitch for a television series of the same name. The story is based off my experience growing up in SI and the stranger than fiction stories I picked up along the way.

Set the Scene
Dump, Mafia, Police, and Pizza
Staten Island is both figuratively and literally the dumping ground of the city. It used to be the site for the largest landfill in the entire world, and there might be some other kind of "dumping" if you know what I mean. The Italian Mafia is so ingrained in every day affairs here, you'd be surprised what businesses weren't owned by them. And if you're not part of the mob, you're either a cop or a firefighter. And don't worry if you get hungry, every block is decked out with a minimum of 2 pizzerias, and the pizza here is the best. Is it the NYC water? Is it the drugs? Fugghedaboutit.
